Dutch star Seedorf scores first goal for Botafogo
Rio de Janeiro, Aug 5 – Former Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf scored his first goal since joining Botafogo as the Rio club rallied to beat Atletico Goias 2-1.
Goalkeeper Marcio opened the scoring for Atletico with a 27th-minute penalty before Seedorf curled a trademark free-kick into the top left corner in the 64th minute Saturday, reports Xinhua.
Fellype Gabriel completed the turn-around at the Serra Dourada stadium in Goias with a 73rd minute header from close range.
“A player of Seedorf’s quality will always score sooner or later,” Botafogo coach Oswaldo de Oliveira said after the match.
“He said to me yesterday that he felt like he would score from a free-kick. Today his goal was decisive. It got everybody excited, not only the players but also the fans. It gave me goosebumps, I must confess.”
Seedorf has played five games for Botofogo since joining the club in July after ending his 10-year career with AC Milan.
Saturday’s result leaves Botafogo sixth in Brazil’s Serie A standings with 23 points from 14 games.
